What
will you need? What will you want? Plan for
your basic needs of food, water, shelter, and clothing. And of
course you will want to be *comfortable*. Figuring out how to be
comfortable can be a fun challenge...sorta like playing Swiss
family Robinson shipwrecked on the playa.
The size of your vehicle is an
obvious constraint on how much junk you can bring to the playa.
Lots of burners fix this by renting cargo vans and
moving trucks.
Bringing too much stuff is a
chronic problem: packing, unpacking, cleaning, putting it all
away, etc...yet anybody does this year after year anyway.
Why? It's hard to anticipate exactly what you will need or want,
so you bring lots of stuff *just in case*! We understand!

To help hone your list, ask yourself, "Why am I going
to Burning Man? What do I want to do while I am there?"
It's good to have choices about
what to do each day. Schedule some activities, but leave lots of
time unscheduled. There
are many distractions on the playa: give yourself time to explore.
Whatever plans you make, whatever
decisions you decide, be prepared to be flexible and
spontaneous.
At the end of the week, when you look back, you may find that your
fondest memories are moments that you couldn't have imagined at
home.
We know you are going to Burning
Man because you want to 'try something different'. On the playa,
you can get out of that small box. Bring an open mind and your
best judgment: you will need both.
